Military spending in the world, the US dominates

They invest over 12 times more than Russia. Eleventh Italy (ANSA)


The United States is the country that invests more than any other in military spending in the world.


    According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri), updated to April 2021, North America spends 778 billion dollars, equal to 3.7% of its gross domestic product, but above all equal to 39% of the entire military spending of all the world's nations (1.981 billion dollars).

The only other double-digit country is China which comes in second.

According to an uncertified estimate by SIPRI, Beijing spends 252 billion dollars, equal to 1.7% of its gross domestic product, exactly one third of the United States.

Russia is in fourth place, behind India (72.9 billion dollars), investing 4.3% of its gross domestic product, equal to 61,


    The 'top 10' is completed by the United Kingdom (59.2 billion), Saudi Arabia (57.5 billion), Germany (52.8 billion), France (52.7 billion), Japan (49.1 billion) and Corsa del Sud (45.7 billion).

Italy is eleventh, with an expenditure of 28.9 billion dollars, equal to 1.6% of GDP.

Those who spend the largest percentage of their GDP are Saudi Arabia (8.4%), followed by Israel (5.6%) and Russia (4.3%).


    The country that has the highest military spending per capita of all is the United Arab Emirates, with $ 2,256.54 per citizen.

Second place for Israel ($ 2,241) and third place for the United States ($ 2,240).


    The entire world military expenditure in 2020, according to SIPRI data, is the highest since 1988, with an increase of 2.6% compared to 2019 and 9.3% compared to 2011. After a decline between the beginning of the nineties and the middle of the same decade, military spending has returned to rise steadily from 1998 until today.
