In the police affair in Baden-Württemberg, the public prosecutor's office searched the Ministry of the Interior.
The background to this is the investigation into Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU).
Apparently documents were confiscated.
The Ministry of the Interior stated that the prosecutor had been given all the information in full without delay.
They rely on "maximum cooperation with the public prosecutor's office".
The prosecution reports that the public prosecutor's office in Stuttgart has secured evidence based on a search order from the district court in the Ministry of the Interior.
It is about the suspicion of prohibited communications about court hearings.
The background to the allegations against Interior Minister Strobl are investigations into a leading police officer on suspicion of sexual harassment.
The man is said to have harassed a chief inspector in a video chat with his ideas about sexual practices.
Because Strobl passed on a letter from the accused officer's lawyer to a journalist, he is now also under investigation.
The reporter is suspected of having quoted official documents from the ongoing proceedings against the police officer.
Strobl, in turn, is said to have instigated him to do so.
Strobl is being investigated on suspicion of inciting prohibited communications about court hearings.
Strobl defends himself
In a special session of the interior committee on Wednesday, Strobl admitted that he had passed on an official letter to a journalist.
He was concerned with »avoiding damage to the state police«.
Strobl had initially stopped the public prosecutor's investigations into the question of how the letter had gotten to the public.
The opposition parties SPD, FDP and AfD rarely agree that the interior minister is no longer acceptable.
"Strobl violated the principle of the rule of law, data protection and his duty of care," SPD faction leader Andreas Stoch told SPIEGEL.
"He must be released."
