“By our souls and our blood we will protect you, O Shireen”.
To the sound of these words chanted in a loop, Palestinians gathered to pay homage to Shireen Abu Akleh, shot dead this Wednesday, May 11.
Her body was transported to the offices of Al-Jazeera, the media for which she worked, in the Palestinian city of Ramallah.
The star journalist of the Qatari channel died while covering an Israeli army operation in the occupied West Bank.
She wore a bulletproof vest stamped "press", identifiable.
Al-Jazeera accused Israeli forces of "deliberately" and "cold-blooded" killing of its star journalist who was shot in the head, while Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett claimed that she had "probably" been killed by gunfire from Palestinian fighters on the sidelines of clashes in the Jenin refugee camp.

Since March 22, Israel has been the target of a series of attacks that have killed at least 18 people.
In the aftermath, 31 Palestinians, including assailants, were killed in various incidents, including a young man on Wednesday near Ramallah.
