In Jaegerthal, the forges give voice

Since 2020, the opera festival created by the descendants of the Dietrich family has brought this Alsatian industrial site to life for two weekends.


Opera where you least expect it.

Where the adventure of Dietrich, the world famous Reichshoffen forge masters began.

In 1685, Johan embarked on the production of iron to supply the French army of Louis XIV, thus assuring his people of not being worried for their Lutheran faith.

“I bathed in this story.

Two hundred years later, my great-grandmother Jacqueline saw the forge go out.

In 2019, we reignited the blast furnace with Mozart”

, smiles Céline Mellon, soprano and creator in 2020 of the lyrical festival La Voix des forges, in Jaegerthal, not far from Strasbourg.

Of the forge itself with its water wheels and hammers, there remains only a vast empty building, which was transformed at the beginning of the summer into a performance hall.

Right next to it, the old electrical factory, houses for the heads of the workers testify to the evolutions of the place, with the remains of an imposing stone building.
