Fashion designer
Issey Miyake
passed away last weekend, it was announced today (Tuesday).
Miyaki, who headed the fashion empire that bore his name, was born in 1938 in Hiroshima.
When he was seven years old, he survived the atomic bombing of the city, and refused to talk about the incident.
As a child, he dreamed of becoming a dancer or an athlete, but flipping through a fashion magazine that belonged to his sister made him rethink his path and he turned to the world of design.
After graduating from graphic design studies at Tokyo University of the Arts, Miyaki moved to Paris where he studied fashion design.
After a short foray to New York, the designer returned to Japan, and established his studio in 1970.

Throughout his extensive career, Miyaki was able to develop a new method of manufacturing fabrics so that they could allow full freedom of movement and maintain a clean and straight look.
After designing lines for women and men, releasing perfumes and jewelry, he transferred the management of the fashion house to Naoki Takizawa, and devoted his time to research.
In an interview he gave to the Guardian on Saturday 2016, he spoke about the challenges facing young designers and predicted the downsizing trend and green fashion that would take over every good piece: "We will have to go through a process of dilution, and this is important."
