Scotland recently decided, and now Düsseldorf is following suit: In the future, there will be free pads and tampons in secondary schools.

This is how the school committee of the council decided, as the city of Düsseldorf writes on its website.

The city writes that 13 schools in Düsseldorf had initially tested the free edition in a pilot phase between November 2021 and July 2022, including two high schools, one junior high school, five vocational colleges, one special needs school and four secondary schools.

70 percent of these schools would have drawn a positive balance after the test.

They wanted to continue the concept.

The costs would have amounted to an average of 180 euros per school in the test phase - depending on the number of students.

In future, the money will come from the budget of the Office for Schools and Education.

The city will provide the dispensers for pads and tampons.
