Do you know the “Veganuary”?

It's one of the New Year's resolutions for many people.

But what is it actually and what does this challenge bring?

"Eat less meat" and "eat healthier" are two of the most popular New Year's resolutions.

Not only in Germany, but also worldwide.

This is probably one of the reasons why the “Veganuary” has prevailed in recent years.

This means giving up all animal foods such as butter, eggs or meat for a month.

Vegan burgers with beetroot patties and plant-based mayo: you don't even have to go without fast food at the "Veganuary".

You make the burgers yourself or order them from one of the many restaurants participating in the campaign.

The “Veganuary” (a combination of the words “vegan” and “January”) is a British campaign to encourage people to adopt a vegan lifestyle.

The challenge at the beginning of the year also shows that a changeover may not be as difficult as you might think.

The campaign has been taking place since 2014 and the number of participants is growing every year.

This probably also has something to do with social media, where the hashtag #veganuary is trending regularly.

Almost 2.5 million people have registered worldwide since the beginning, in 2022 alone there were more than 600,000 worldwide.

Interesting: Apparently more men than women are interested in vegan nutrition.

Celebrities and companies are participating in vegan January

Many companies are jumping on the January trend and launching new products, such as vegan ground beef.

According to

Utopia.de

, there were around 1,500 new foods or menus last year.

Also fast food chains like

"

Peter Pane"

have a particularly large number of vegan burgers on the menu in January.

Attention: Not all veggie foods are really vegan.

Prominent names supporting the “Veganuary” include YouTuber Rezo, doctor and author Dr.

Eckard von Hirschhausen and actor Hannes Jaenicke.

They are also joined by strong Hollywood personalities such as Mayim Bialik, Joaquin Phoenix and Alec Baldwin.

When we look at the world through another animal's eyes, we need to realize that on the inside we are all the same.

And that we all deserve a life without suffering.

How useful is a vegan month?

Very, at least experts say.

A survey by the

Harvard University Animal Law and Policy Program

calculated 2020, which is 31 days vegan for an impact since 2014.

According to

Utopia

, more than 100,000 tons of CO₂, six million liters of water were saved and a good 3.4 million animal lives were saved.

But the month does not only bring good things for the environment and animals.

Almost half of all participants indicated that they had more energy, a better mood and an overall improvement in their health.

Also important: Many actually remain vegan or at least vegetarian afterwards.

A nice result for an internet trend.
