Once upon a time there was a Sunday afternoon in the restaurant business...

During my time in gastronomy, I worked in an Italian restaurant.

Here it was customary for the whole team to make a “pasta al forno” together on Sundays.

All you have to do is put your favorite ingredients with cooked pasta (there is always some leftovers) and a sauce of your choice in a large baking dish.

A thick layer of cheese on top and off to the wood-fired oven until the cheese is nice and golden and crispy.

This tradition was honored, celebrated weekly and not just because the next day was a day off.

It was a kind of family reunion where friends or members of the crew kept coming to spend Sunday lunchtime together.

So this broccoli gnocchi casserole with ham might be the next “pasta al forno” for your family or friends get-together.

That's how it's done:

You need these ingredients:

  • 600 g gnocchi (from the refrigerated shelf)

  • 300g broccoli, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 200 g ham, cut into squares

  • 200 g grated cheese

  • 200 g crème fraîche

  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 0.5 tsp pepper, ground

  • 1 pinch nutmeg, grated

  • 200 ml whipping cream

  • 8 g chives, finely chopped

The preparation is very simple and quick:

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C for a circulating air

  • In a large bowl, mix the gnocchi, broccoli, ham, 100g grated cheese, crème fraîche, garlic clove, whipped cream and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

  • Put the mixed ingredients in a casserole dish and sprinkle with the remaining 100 g grated cheese.

  • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven until a golden brown crust forms.

  • Arrange a portion of casserole on a plate and garnish with chives.

  • Buon Appetito!

  • This broccoli gnocchi casserole with ham recipe is the perfect comfort food.
