The rumor had been swelling since Sweden's victory on May 13, but they put an end to it for good. Swedish disco group ABBA will not reunite at Eurovision 2024, 50 years after winning the famous contest with "Waterloo", two of its members told the BBC on Thursday.

Since the victory of the Swedish representative Loreen in the 2023 edition in Liverpool (United Kingdom), speculation was rife, since the opportunity was too good for the group. As per the rules, the winning country organizes the next edition, which raised hopes of seeing the legendary group with hundreds of millions of albums sold worldwide.

"If one of the members says no, then it's no"

The two men in the group chose to end it quickly: "I don't want to. And if I don't want it, others won't. It's the same for all four. If one says no, then it's no," Andersson said in an interview with Newsnight magazine to be broadcast Thursday night on the BBC.

There is "no chance" that ABBA will sing next year or even make an appearance on stage, he said in excerpts of this interview published ahead of the BBC beforehand. "We can celebrate 50 years of ABBA without being on stage," said his colleague Björn Ulvaeus.

A public speech that puts an end to two weeks of rumors, although representatives of the group had already indicated to the British newspaper Metro on May 18 that the group would not take part in Eurovision 2024.

After nearly four decades of silence and de facto separation, ABBA had released at the end of 2021 a new album ("Voyage") and since last year, fans of their worldwide hits like "Mamma Mia", "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man after Midnight) " or "Dancing Queen", can attend a show in London of the quartet represented by digital avatars broadcast in hologram.
