(CNN Spanish) - The Ecuadorian justice ordered preventive detention for the former Alianza País ex-assembly member, Virgilio Hernández, who was linked in the investigation carried out by the Prosecutor for alleged participation in the crime of "rebellion" after the violent protests unleashed in October .

Hernández serves as executive secretary of the Citizen Revolution movement led by former president Rafael Correa. After the arrest of Hernández, the tax investigation stage was extended from 90 to 120 days in this case, the Prosecutor's Office said.

Regarding the crime of rebellion, the Criminal Code of Ecuador establishes that: “the person who raises or performs violent actions that have as their object the ignorance of the Constitution or the overthrow of the legitimately constituted government, without affecting the legitimate right to resistance, will be punished with imprisonment for five to seven years. ”
