At present, more than 200 Hong Kong people who have been on the Diamond Princess are undergoing quarantine in Chunyang Village, Fo Tan. It is reported that 4 people were initially diagnosed last night and were sent to Queen Mary Hospital for isolation and treatment the same night.
Following the first diagnosis of a 68-year-old male passenger in Hong Kong earlier, Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, revealed today that two additional Diamond Princess quarantines were confirmed, of which the 78th case was a 59-year-old female patient. She was sent to the hospital after her initial test result was positive, and symptoms such as fever and headache did not appear until today after admission. The other was a 58-year-old female patient. In the 79th case, she had throat discomfort while she was still on the boat on February 4. The test results on the boat on February 17 showed that she was negative for the virus. She returned to Hong Kong and was admitted to an isolation center. Another test was performed and the diagnosis was confirmed one week apart. She is currently unwell and is hospitalized at Queen Mary Hospital. In the first case, a 68-year-old male passenger returned to Hong Kong on the first charter flight, while a 59-year-old and 58-year-old patient took the second charter flight.
Zhang Zhujun explained that because the sampling is not necessarily accurate at the moment, it will also affect the test results due to the low virus volume when the patient takes the sample. She went on to point out that because of the transmission chain on the unknown cruise ship, she considered the cruise ship as an epidemic area, and then asked passengers to go to Junyang Village for quarantine. A total of 12 people have been admitted to Junyang Village so far, 4 of whom have been confirmed and two others have been initially diagnosed. The test results are pending review.
