If the university holidays have started well, the IUT of Tremblay-en-France ends the year in uncertainty and turmoil. Four managers of this establishment, attached to the University of Paris-8-Vincennes-Saint-Denis, resigned from their posts at the beginning of July to denounce the dysfunctions which had persisted there for several months. Resignations fraught with consequences since they occur at the time when several preparatory meetings must be held for the validation juries of the second semester of the 2019-20 academic year.
The institute, which welcomes some 450 students, offers three courses in the fields of industrial engineering and maintenance, logistics and transport management and business and administration management.
Student strike movements
In their letter explaining their resignations, the heads of the three formations make a Prévert inventory of problems already highlighted in a very critical report written in May by ten administrators of the IUT. "Our resignations are first and foremost symbolic and intended to draw attention to a particularly degraded and unbearable situation both for students, who have reported it through several strikes, and for teachers who do not have been constantly alerting all levels of our hierarchy, without it has deigned to intervene to put an end to it, ”write the officials.
In the 95-page report they had written, the 10 administrators reported serious dysfunctions that have occurred since the director's suspension in September 2019, when the latter was re-elected in June 2019 for a new term of 5 years with more than 80% of the votes of the directors. A director whose balance they praised in their report and who has since been replaced by two provisional administrators. The first managed the establishment between its suspension and March 2020 and the second after March 2020.
Unhealthy premises and unpaid teachers
"Since he left, the management of the IUT has been catastrophic," said one of the resigning officials. Some temporary teachers have still not signed their contracts and have not been paid for months. We could no longer endorse all of this by remaining at our posts, while the professional future of our students is at stake. The situation is such that relations with certain companies where our students are in work-study have deteriorated. "
The resignation of the officials is not surprising that much the students of the IUT, who also mobilized on their side by organizing several blockades throughout the year. “There are lots of problems: the state of unhealthiness of the IUT first. It is very dirty, cleaning is never done. The atmosphere is terrible, some teachers ended up not coming because they were not paid, the administration does not respond to our requests. It's catastrophic. "
However, the students had met the director of studies at Paris 8 during the year who had promised them that "things were going to get better". "We have had no returns since. It's even more of a mess. We do not know how the validation panels for our semester will be held, and whether we will be able to validate our year. That of July 6 has been canceled. Will the one on the 17th be able to stand?
