The Valence prosecutor's office on Friday, July 24, requested the opening of a judicial investigation against X for " homicide and involuntary injuries " after the serious car accident on the A7 which claimed the lives of five children on Monday evening in the Drôme, AFP learned from the prosecution.

“ We had this pattern in mind the night of the accident. The investigation will now continue in the long term under the responsibility of an examining magistrate , told AFP the public prosecutor of Valence Alex Perrin, confirming information from BFMTV. “ We are still in the process of confirming the identity of the victims and the technical investigation. The expertise is not over, ”he added, specifying that the vital prognosis of“ some ”of the four hospitalized victims is“ still underway ”.
Five dead children
Monday evening, a car accident mowed down nine members of a family from the suburbs of Lyon and the Paris region. All were on the A7 motorway aboard a Renault Grand Scénic minivan which caught fire before exiting the road then several barrels in a field near the town of Albon.

In addition to the five children aged 3 to 14 who died, four other members of the family, including a 7-year-old child and two adults with a life-threatening prognosis, are currently still cared for in hospitals in Lyon. In a preliminary report, the legal expert in mechanics concluded with the " breakdown of the turbo ", which caused a " runaway then the fire of the engine and even perhaps of the passenger compartment ".
