A 90-year-old man who shot a psychologist on Thursday with whom he had an appointment in Canéjan, near Bordeaux, seriously injuring her, was hospitalized automatically in a psychiatric hospital, the prosecution said Friday (September 18th).

The man, who will be 91 years old in November, was the subject of a psychiatric examination which concluded that he was criminally irresponsible.
In view of his dangerousness, he was the subject of compulsory hospitalization.
The prosecution will nevertheless open a judicial investigation for attempted murder with requisition of a committal warrant, in case the doctors decide to lift the compulsory hospitalization, said the prosecution.
For unknown reasons, the nonagenarian drew his pistol and shot the 43-year-old psychologist, who received him at the communal social action center of Canéjan, a town on the edge of the vineyards in the Bordeaux agglomeration. Urgently transported to Bordeaux University Hospital, the victim's vital prognosis had not been committed. According to the
