The Minister of Internal Security, Amir Ohana, announced today (Friday) to the Acting Commissioner, Superintendent Moti Cohen, and to the Acting Commissioner of the IPS, Gondar Asher Vaknin, that he will approve the extension of his term as deputy for another six months, or until an appointment is decided. Set for these roles.
For almost two years now, the police have not had a permanent commissioner, since the retirement of Alshikh and the failure of former Internal Security Minister Gilad Ardan to appoint a permanent commissioner.
This is after two of the candidates he chose for the position were disqualified by the senior appointments committee - which led to Cohen being appointed as a temporary deputy. Cohen's term as deputy was due to end at the end of the month.
Vaknin's term as acting IPS commissioner has lasted almost two years.
