Three young people aged between 19 and 21 were charged with assaulting plainclothes police officers near Whampoa Garden in October last year and throwing bamboo sticks and bricks to block the road. Magistrate Leung Ka-chi said that the police officers were seriously injured and some citizens were affected by road blockage. Imprisonment-style punishment was inevitable. Two defendants were sentenced to rehabilitation centers and the other defendant was imprisoned for 3 months and 3 weeks.
Two of the defendants are brothers
The defendants are Deng Zhuorong (19 years old, student), Wu Haoxian (19 years old, student) and Deng Zhuofan (21 years old, decoration worker). Deng Zhuorong and Deng Zhuofan are brothers.
The charge alleged that on October 11 last year, they attacked Police Constable Tsui Ka-jun outside the No. 4 shop at No. 2-20 Ming On Street in Hung Hom near the junction of Baker Street; and threw bamboo sticks and bricks at the junction of Hung Hom Road and Tak Man Street. Traffic obstructions in public places.
The defense pleaded that although the police officers were injured, the three of them did not deliberately harm each other.
The police officers in plain clothes rushed to the defendant. It was an emergency. The defendant did not plan to attack or use weapons.
The probation officer’s suggestion
The report of the juvenile offenders assessment task force recommended that the first two defendants be admitted to a rehabilitation center, while the other defendant should be sentenced to prison. The defense hopes that the court will adopt the probation officer's recommendation and impose a three-person social service order.
The sentencing officer considered the case to be serious, and finally adopted the recommendations of the juvenile offender evaluation panel report for sentencing.
