Prof. Ash: The new corona mutation from the UK is being followed with concern
The new strain of the virus that led to the imposition of a closure on London and other districts threatens to reach Israel, while at the same time the declaration of all countries as red is expected to take effect.
"We think the vaccine will work on him as well," the corona commissioner said.
According to scientists, the mutation is about 70% more contagious

The Ministry of Health is following with concern the outbreak of a new strain of corona virus in the UK - said today (Sunday) Corona Commissioner, Prof. Nachman Ash.
According to scientists, the new mutation infects more than 70% of the original virus, and while the immunization campaign against Corona began in Israel today, the kingdom - where it began about two weeks ago - has not yet been known whether the vaccine is effective against the new strain.
Prof. Ash said this morning that in Israel it is estimated that the vaccine also works against the new mutation.
"We are following with concern," he said at the start of the vaccination campaign against the virus.
"We are testing the connection to the cell with the virus. At the moment we think the vaccine will work on the new mutation as well."
Prof. Ash also said that in order to keep track of the new strain returning from the kingdom will be checked at the entrance to the country, and that "they need to go into isolation like any other country."
In the UK, the discovery of the mutation has led to the imposition of closures on London and some counties in the south of the country, as well as the tightening of existing restrictions, contrary to government plans to ease restrictions ahead of Christmas.

The announcement comes in the background of the Ministry of Health's announcement yesterday that all countries will be considered red from next Saturday, and therefore anyone who returns from them will be required to be in 14-day isolation.
However, returnees from countries that have been green to date will be exempted from isolation as long as they return by next Saturday.
The possibility of requiring those entering the country to be tested is also being considered.
Alternatively, a first test can be performed upon return to the country and a second test nine days after landing, and if both tests are negative he can leave isolation ten days later.
On Tuesday, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, signed the order defining the countries of the world as red, starting on December 26.
