Noise displays measure speed and volume.

The community of Kreuth is considering purchasing such a device for 16,000 euros.

Kreuth

- The problem in Kreuth and especially at the intersection in Weißach is not new: Residents feel disturbed by the noise of motorbikes and racing cars - and not only in the district of Weißach.

Mayor Josef Bierschneider regularly receives angry emails, especially on Mondays, mostly from citizens pleading for help.

That is why Bierschneider put the purchase of a noise display to the vote in the local council.

These are mobile signs with a little girl covering her ears next to the words "psst ... Consideration!"

Noise measuring units are integrated in the delineator post.

If a vehicle rushes by, either a red flashing “Please quieter” or a green “Thank you” appears on the display.

"However, those who caused the noise are not caught by lightning and prosecuted - as in the case of a speeding violation", explained Bierschneider.

But the type of vehicle is recorded.

"If there is a certain regularity, we have something in hand so that we can have the police check it out from time to time," he said.

System relies on personal responsibility

Otherwise, the system relies on the personal responsibility of the motorcyclists and car owners.

Peter Stiepan (CSU) could only smile mildly: “I'm afraid that a lot of people will turn up their carrots to see that their opened machine actually makes the right sound.

I'm more afraid that these displays will create something like competition. "

His parliamentary colleague Ulrike Rohnbogner saw it similarly: “Those who crank it up are not interested in whether they are loud or quiet and disturb others.” And for Matthias Erhardt (Greens), the purchase only makes sense if exceeding noise limits has consequences Has.

Cooperation with neighboring towns desired

The costs of 16,000 euros were not good for Markus Wrba (FWG).

He jokingly suggested having the device sponsored by local residents who wrote complaints.

With a view to the budget situation of the community, Christian Bock (CSU) wanted to know whether neighboring towns with similar traffic noise problems could be found who would buy such a noise display together with Kreuth.

Under these conditions, the local council finally voted in favor of the purchase.

The amount will be entered in the 2021 budget.
