After two lockdowns, a bit of normality should return to the Tegernsee elementary school on Monday (February 22nd).

The rector is looking forward to the new start with her students - we are prepared.

Tegernsee

- On Monday (February 22nd), the primary school students will also return to face-to-face classes in Tegernsee.

“We're all really looking forward to it,” says Claudia Horstmann, who has been running the primary school for six years with a team of six permanent teachers, two subject teachers and a social worker who is available on an hourly basis.

How did it go between emergency care and home schooling?

Our newspaper asked the Tegernsee primary school, which with 63 girls and boys is one of the smaller primary schools in the district.

Students of the first and second level are together in so-called flex classes.

“No class has more than 17 students,” says Horstmann.

That makes keeping your distance easy.

In general, Tegernsee is in a comfortable location: the school building on Hochfeldstrasse has large rooms and has already had a ventilation system that exchanges air.

Nevertheless, the city hall is currently considering the purchase of additional ventilation devices - with special filters, as managing director Hans Staudacher reports.

All six classrooms, possibly also the all-purpose room, are to be equipped with the systems.

Balance of home schooling: "In the second round, a lot went better"

As for the emergency care that was offered throughout the two previous school closure phases, twelve students took advantage of it, reports Horstmann.

In addition to her as rector, there was a teacher in the house every day.

Horstmann takes stock after the second home schooling phase: “In the second round, a lot went better than in the first.” Almost all children were reached.

In particularly stubborn cases, the teachers would have helped with their commitment: "We visited these families at home for two hours."

Headmistress wants more tablets and laptops

In this context, Horstmann not only praises her team of teachers, but also the parents' council, which provided support.

This also applies to the equipment with tablets.

Five devices were available for emergency care, and the school is now equipped with a total of 18 tablets.

Service clubs such as Lions and Rotary also collected equipment for homeschooling and donated it to the school, says Horstmann.

"Of course, I would like every child in our school to be equipped with their own tablet in the future - purely for reasons of hygiene." There are also new laptops for the teachers on hold.

And there is still room for improvement in the WLAN connection.

"It breaks down regularly in the morning," reports Horstmann, "even if the city pays the provider for the full service."

Teachers and children are happy when normality returns

The school also used the time of emergency care and home schooling internally: “We have developed, simplified and digitized many processes.

We have less paperwork, ”says Horstmann with satisfaction.

Everyone is now longing for the coming Monday: "We teachers and, above all, the children are happy when normality returns," says the Rector.

The fact that everyone has to wear mouth and nose protection (Horstmann: "The government provides us with parcels that we have to pick up at the school office in Miesbach."), However, is a visible sign that everything is not back to normal the Tegernsee School.
