Teachers 'organizations and the national parents' leadership were also invited to the press conference.

What the decision will be to extend the current school year (2001) was made, due to the enormous damage the corona caused to the education system. At the press conference tonight, Finance Minister Israel Katz is also expected to be present, as leaving the education system in the summer months is likely to cost the economy a huge sum.

Despite the statement of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education, it seems that there are those who oppose the idea, the chairman of the teachers 'union, Ran Erez, commented on the publication and said: "As agreed between the teachers' union and the Minister of Education today, in secondary education the school year will end as a series on 20.6.21. Where there will be gaps, as they may be, teachers who wish to do so will be able to fill in the gaps, in exchange for full pay.

"Post-primary teachers teach and have taught throughout the Corona crisis non-stop, and only interested teachers will be able to teach subject to their consent, during the month of July, for full pay of course, to complete such gaps as they exist up to the 11th grade."

He added: "This is not a blanket obligation or an extension of the school year. The aforesaid is added to the routine activity carried out by teachers every year to complete the learning obligations for twelfth-grade students."

The person who also strongly opposed the idea of extension is the secretary general of the Teachers 'Union, Yaffa Ben-David: "I would like to clarify that the position of the teachers' union has not changed.

The school year will end in middle schools on June 20, and in kindergartens and elementary schools on June 30.

She added: "The best solution is for the state to run the summer school program, as it has done successfully in previous years. The teachers' union will continue to care for and preserve the rights of teaching staff.

However, it is estimated that many teachers will take the opportunity and take part in extending the school year, since in the summer they are entitled to an increased payment of NIS 70 per hour.
