According to information provided by the Hospital Authority, the first case involved an 80-year-old man who suffered from diabetes, carotid atherosclerosis, high blood pressure and a stroke.

He felt chest pain on March 6 and sought medical attention in the Accident and Emergency Department of Caritas Medical Hospital.

The patient did not respond well to treatment and was transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment the same night. He was initially diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and is currently in critical condition.

According to information, he was vaccinated against the new crown at the community vaccination center of Tianhui Road Stadium in Yuen Long on March 1.

The other case involved a 72-year-old woman who suffered from diabetes, hyperlipidemia, high blood pressure and insufficient thyroid function.

She was vaccinated against COVID-19 at the Community Vaccination Center of the Tseung Kwan O Stadium on March 6. She felt weak afterwards and stopped two doses of insulin.

She was found to be worse off by her family this morning and was sent to the Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment. She was later found to have severe diabetic ketoacidosis and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment.

The Department of Health is consulting the Hospital Authority for more information on the two incidents for investigation and evaluation.

The Department of Health will submit the case to the COVID-19 vaccine clinical event assessment expert committee for causality assessment as soon as possible, and will release the assessment results in due course.
