An elderly man wearing boots, a blue cap and a back sling bag, walked by Wong Tai Sin Upper Village near Da Shan Building, and suddenly moved near a wild pigeon on the ground. He took his right hand and threw a stone at the wild pigeon, who was struck and fluttered and struggled.
The second team of the Wong Tai Sin Police District Criminal Investigation Team took over the investigation and arrested a 70-year-old local man named Tang in Hung Hom at about 4 pm today (12th) for cruel treatment of animals. He is currently being detained for investigation.
It is understood that the arrested old man has repeatedly used stones to throw wild pigeons and capture previous records of wild pigeons. He was arrested in another pigeon abuse case this month.
On the 3rd of this month, off of Ban Fung House, 111 Fung Tak Road, Wong Tai Sin, police officers discovered that the old man was behaving strangely and was suspected of attacking wild pigeons with stones. The police seized stones and a blue environmental protection bag on his body. After investigation, it was confirmed that the old man was wanted for another suspected pigeon abuse case in Mong Kok six months ago and was arrested for cruelty to animals.
The police stated that they attach great importance to and will never tolerate all cases of cruelty to animals.
Cruel treatment of animals is a serious crime. According to Article 3 of the Prevention of Cruel Treatment of Animals Ordinance, Chapter 169 of the Laws of Hong Kong, the maximum penalty for cruel treatment of animals is a fine of 200,000 yuan and imprisonment for 3 years.
