A 34-year-old woman left the quarantine hotel and took off her bracelet for violating the "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Persons Arriving to Hong Kong from Foreign Areas" (Chapter 599E) ("Regulations"). She was in the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts yesterday (April 9) Sentenced to immediate imprisonment for ten days.

The Information Services Department released information late on Friday (9th) that the woman had been issued a compulsory quarantine order earlier, stating that she must undergo compulsory quarantine at a hotel for 14 days.

Before the expiry of the quarantine order, she left her quarantine site on September 16 last year and was found to have taken off her bracelet during a surprise inspection the next day without reasonable excuse and permission from authorized personnel.

She was charged with violating Articles 8(1), 8(4) and 8(5) of the Regulations and was sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment for the two offences at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court today, concurrently executed.

A spokesman for the Department of Health said that the sentence can give the society very clear information: violating the quarantine order is a criminal offence, and the government will not tolerate those who violate the Regulations, and solemnly reminds the public to abide by the Regulations.

As of today, a total of 121 people have been convicted by the court for violating quarantine orders, sentenced to immediate imprisonment for up to 14 weeks or fined up to 15,000 yuan.

The spokesperson reiterated that the Department of Health will definitely follow up any violation of relevant regulations.

According to the current "Regulations", all arrivals (except those exempted from compulsory quarantine) who have stayed outside of China (excluding those arriving in Hong Kong from Australia, New Zealand or Singapore) on the day of arrival in Hong Kong or 21 days before must Compulsory quarantine is 21 days from the day of arrival in Hong Kong.

The compulsory quarantine period for people arriving in Hong Kong from Australia, New Zealand or Singapore is 14 days.

In addition, according to the "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Arrivals" (Chapter 599C), all persons arriving in Hong Kong from China (except Hong Kong) (except those exempt from compulsory quarantine), on the day of arrival in Hong Kong or 14 days before, If you have stayed in China, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore, you must undergo a 14-day compulsory quarantine from the day you arrive in Hong Kong.

If the person has stayed outside of China, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore, he must undergo a 21-day compulsory quarantine from the day he arrives in Hong Kong.

Violation of the compulsory quarantine order constitutes a criminal offence, and offenders can be fined up to 25,000 yuan and imprisoned for six months.
