A curious ritual has taken place among the parents of students at the Joliot-Curie elementary school, in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).
Every evening for nearly three weeks, most of them have been anxiously consulting their smartphones.
With their eyes riveted on the screen, they watch for the dreaded message that will tell them whether or not their children will finally be able to go back to school the next morning.
Because, officially, the 24 CM1-B students enrolled in this elementary school have not been taught since May 21.
A sad day when the children saw their teacher literally collapse before their eyes after learning, by phone, the results of medical analyzes.
“Obviously, these results were not good, laments a parent of a student.
The teacher, who was also very popular, felt uneasy before leaving for an emergency.
And since then, there is no longer any educational follow-up for children.

They cannot be divided into other classes
Clearly, the parents do not know, since the incident, whether the teacher, who arrived at the last start of the school year in September, will or will not be replaced by the end of the school year.
And, health protocol requires, students deprived of a teacher cannot be dispatched to other classes at the same level.
Consequence: they are forced to stay at home, at the same time forcing parents to redouble their imagination to organize themselves.

"Let's say we adapt," Aida squeals, for whom having her daughter babysat becomes problematic.
Suddenly, I ask my mother or my sister, another I ask my neighbor.
But hey, it can't go on like this indefinitely.

"Nobody answers us"
Problem: information is trickling in.
On two occasions, the teacher was replaced for one day.
And each time, the parents were warned at the last moment.
“It even happened that we were alerted ten minutes before via the school's WhatsApp list, deplores Mounir Klai, FCPE delegate.
We received a message at 8:25 am telling us that a replacement would be there at 8:35 am.
How do you want parents to organize themselves under these conditions?

Mounir Klai especially regrets that no organized and lasting solution is offered to them, despite several letters addressed to the ministry and to the academic inspectorate: “National Education does not react, nobody answers us.
However, we have requested the academic direction of the national education services but nothing happens.
The consequences in terms of learning for some children, however, risk being catastrophic.

A complicated period, according to the rectorate
Contacted by Le Parisien, the rectorate of the Academy of Versailles admits having struggled to ensure all replacements in this very particular period of health crisis.
"The replacement brigades in the Nanterre sector were very heavily mobilized over this period and did not allow continuous support for this class," one explains, specifying that two replacement days could have been provided.
However, this is good news for the students and their parents: the rectorate explains that since the prolongation of the teacher's absence cannot permanently affect the students, an alternative solution has been found and should be put in place as soon as possible. Thursday.
