A fatal mixture of hail and heavy rain also caught the community of Irschenberg on Monday evening and devastated it in places.

In the Irschenberg area, cellars overflowed, streets and paths were flooded.

Despite a lot of support from other communities, the fire brigade had a lot to do.

Irschenberg

- While Mayor Klaus Meixner took the opportunity at the meeting of the Irschenberg municipal council in the gym on Monday evening to praise the heavy rain operations of the fire brigade, another storm broke outside around 7.40 p.m. Even more violent, even more ominous than on the weekend. This time large hail thundered down to pigeon eggs, demolished cars, windows and roofs, knocked leaves and branches out of the woods. Together with the rain, there was a fatal mixture: In many places, the washed away greenery shut down gullies and drains. Water dammed in this way ran in streams over paths and streets, penetrated houses, flooded cellars and garages.

For Irschenberg's fire brigade commander Tom Niggl, who also took part in the council as third mayor, the meeting ended at 7:50 p.m. - the first alarm went off.

The auxiliaries formed.

Neuralgic points were checked, including the Winterweg, the connecting road from the B 472 down to the Auerschmied.

“It was massive there,” notes Niggl.

Fire brigades in action

The greatest stress was shown for the emergency services in the districts of Ober- and Niederhasling.

The water there shot out of the forest 20 centimeters high.

Passages were blocked, water was entering houses.

There were also several locations in the village itself on Anzingerstrasse and Breitensteinstrasse.

“We had a total of 40 deployment sites,” reports Niggl.

110 forces were deployed.

The 25 firefighters from Irschenberg were supported by colleagues from Parsberg, Wörnsmühl, Hundham, Gmund and Schaftlach as well as the technical aid organization, the building yard, the sewage treatment team and a vehicle from the rescue service.

The evening of the mission was over at around 2 a.m. - not without a snack for the hard-working helpers.

It was also an unusual storm for Niggl: "I've been doing this for some time now, but I've never experienced anything like it." What was bad was that the thundercloud did not move on, but rather got stuck.

"So a lot of water came together, which then flowed downwards with a time lag." The forest settlement was also badly affected.

Here, too, streets turned into streams and water seeped into houses.

The THW tried to channel the floods with sandbags, but that was extremely difficult.

Niggl: "There was only water everywhere." It also shot out of the gullies.

Houses under water - streets washed away

The storm not only flooded houses, but also badly damaged the municipal roads in Irschenberg - some were undermined, including at Schwamham and Niederhasling.

Mayor Meixner was out yesterday to get an idea of the damage.

His conclusion: "Everything can be repaired, but it is not a little." And it will take time to work through the damage list.

Meixner is shocked by the extent of the storm: “I haven't seen such crowds either.” The sports field was literally flooded by the masses of water that shot down from the view.

"The water was 30 centimeters high on the street," reports Meixner of his nightly visit.

His car was also damaged by hail - as were all of the council members' cars.

Despite all the damage, fire brigade commander Niggl also has positive things to report: “Many people asked us if they should help.

Others who had enough to do sent us on to people who needed our help more.

Some of them tackled by themselves, clearing roads and watercourses with the tractor.

We were able to take care of the important missions. ”Meixner also praised the team spirit.

The fact that road users sought protection under the motorway bridge on the B 472 and thus blocked the road was less positive.

"It was difficult for us to get through," says Niggl.

"But who can blame them?"
