The Director of the General Authority of Damascus Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Abbas, revealed a slight increase in the number of hospital patients suspected of being infected with the Corona virus.

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Abbas indicated that there are currently 12 suspected cases in the isolation department, five of which are in intensive care, noting that four to five suspected cases visit the hospital daily, compared to a maximum of two patients a day in the past period.

The hospital director attributed the reason for the increase in cases to the citizens' lack of commitment to preventive measures, especially in crowded places, and the arrival of a large number of expatriates to spend their holidays in their country, in addition to the fact that neighboring countries are also witnessing an increase in the number of infections and the arrival of new mutations of the virus.

Dr. Abbas said: All this makes us sound the alarm in anticipation of a new wave of HIV infections, stressing the role of citizens in adhering to preventive measures as they are the cornerstone in protecting against infection, especially the elderly and chronic patients.

The director of the hospital pointed out the importance of the vaccine in terms of protection, stressing the need to take preventive measures even if two doses of the vaccine are obtained.

Dr. Abbas stressed that the hospital is on a high degree of readiness, including the isolation department, in anticipation of any emergency, and the cadres are trained to deal with any case.

An increase in suspected cases was noticed by doctors in the clinics as well, according to the specialist in chest diseases, Dr. Nawar El-Baradei, who stated that ten days ago this increase was noticed, as the clinics received 2 to 3 cases, but they are mild in terms of the degree of infection, and most of them have digestive symptoms and elevated temperatures.

Dr. ElBaradei indicated that the severe cases that required hospitalization were characterized, in addition to chest symptoms, by hypoxia and pulmonary infiltrates, in the presence of a disturbance of consciousness.

ElBaradei pointed out that in the past period, the number of patients with symptoms similar to Corona has decreased significantly, and the cases that visit clinics have become rare, but the inaction of citizens in applying preventive measures and the increase in the number of infections in neighboring countries was reflected in the epidemiological situation in Syria, as she put it.

According to ElBaradei, in the last wave of Corona, the number of clinic visitors averaged 30 patients per day, stressing the importance of adhering to preventive measures, especially with the approaching date of opening schools, which are gathering places.
