The Pentagon announced today that the threat to Kabul airport remains "real and specific."
"We are now in a particularly dangerous period, and the threat is still real and in many cases still identified," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told AFP, adding that "forces in Afghanistan have instructions to respond to any threat."
In turn, Major General of the US Army Hank Taylor said that more than 122,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan, including 5,400 Americans.
It is scheduled to complete the United States withdraw its troops from Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Earlier today, a US official announced the departure of essential US diplomatic staff from Afghanistan as final withdrawals from Kabul airport continued.
