Mayor Rainer Kopnicky has defused the danger area on Schmiedgasse with mobile no-parking signs.

A mirror will be installed soon.

Königsdorf

- When Peter Hofberger raised his arm under the item miscellaneous in the most recent council meeting, many probably already suspected what he was going to say. The CSU Council had pointed out the Schmiedgasse / Hauptstrasse danger zone several times in the past few months. The junction is confusing, only recently two traffic accidents occurred there. “The issue is not being dealt with responsibly”, Hofberger grumbled, saying that he couldn't understand it. Complaints from residents have not been heard for a long time, "then it was said that a mirror would be attached. But nothing has happened to this day. "

The problem: Cars parked on the parking lane opposite the town hall, especially high-rise vehicles, block the view of road users coming from Schmiedgasse. Various traffic shows with the police and representatives of the traffic authorities did not provide a solution either. Months ago, the municipal administration finally had a plant trough and red and white beacons set up on the foremost of the three parking spaces - which did not turn out to be the last word in wisdom. Because now the waist-high bucket blocked the view of motorists and small pedestrians.

Rainer Kopnicky (CSU) did not want to let Hofberger's allegations sit on him.

"First and foremost, the road user is responsible for how he behaves," said the town hall chief.

With his demands, Hofberger constructs “a liability shift that should bring the community to account.

And that's legally wrong. ”There are problematic areas in many communities.

That is why we have advisors like the police and the specialist departments, where you can address these things and try to find solutions. ”The mayor announced that the traffic mirror will be installed, but you have to contact the property owner - the brother of councilor Markus Orterer - “Ask for permission and he's currently on vacation”.

According to the police, other approaches to a solution, such as only temporarily allowed parking at this point, were not legally tenable.

And a general parking ban is not a solution either.

“What do I say then further down at the Gasthof zur Post?

Do I have to forbid parking there if I have further claims?

In addition, a municipality cannot analyze every confluence from a municipal road into or every property exit onto a federal road and provide remedial measures in the event of problems.

She is not legally allowed to do so.

Kopnicky also recalled that the police spoke out against a mirror at the traffic shows "because it distorts the view" and this could lead to misjudgments.

This increases the risk even more.

The municipal administration reacted promptly even without a resolution: the morning after the meeting, the trough and beacons had disappeared.

Instead, mobile no-parking signs prohibited parking at the danger zone.

“Yes, I arranged that,” says town hall chief Kopnicky when asked by our newspaper.

However, he indicated that this is a temporary measure until the mirror is installed.

Since, in the event of the landowner's consent, it would stand on private land, neither the road construction authority nor the police have a say.
