The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO” adopted two resolutions in favor of occupied Palestine during the 212th session of its Executive Council in Paris confirming that the status of Jerusalem is an “occupied city” and the invalidity of Israeli measures.
Russia Today stated that the two resolutions included a demand for "Israel" to stop its continued illegal policies represented in excavations, tunnels, works and projects in East Jerusalem, depriving Palestinians of the right to worship and movement, and distorting the authenticity and integrity of heritage sites in Jerusalem in particular and Palestine in general.
For its part, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the vote on the two resolutions and stressed the need to implement other decisions concerning Palestinian sites in the West Bank, including the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, calling on the international community and UNESCO to pressure Israel to stop its illegal measures and attempts to deliberately sabotage Palestinian Christian and Islamic cultural heritage.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the adoption of the decisions of occupied Palestine and the cultural and educational institutions came unanimously by the members of the Executive Council of the organization, noting that the two decisions affirm the status of Jerusalem as an occupied city and the invalidity of the measures taken by “Israel”, the occupying power in the Holy City, and the need to cancel them immediately.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry also expressed its rejection of Israeli practices aimed at Judaizing heritage and religious sites and banning Palestinian Christian and Muslim worshipers from accessing them.
