A driver drove into the end of a traffic jam on Autobahn 5 near Freiburg and caused an accident with three seriously injured people.
According to the police, the impact was so forceful that the car pushed another car against an articulated lorry.
The man in the middle vehicle was so seriously injured on Thursday that a rescue helicopter had to fly him to a clinic.
