The economy is recovering from the consequences of the pandemic, but there is often a shortage of skilled workers.
The central immigration office of Rhineland-Palatinate is feeling a clear demand for personnel.
Kaiserslautern - The new central immigration office of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate has drawn a positive balance of its first nine months. The authority, which has been based in Kaiserslautern since the beginning of the year, has been very well received and is enjoying increasing case numbers, said a spokesman for the Palatinate municipality of the German Press Agency. "From a local point of view, the economy is noticeably recovering - and thus the demand for staff is rising noticeably."
There is a shortage of skilled workers in a number of industries. "The majority of employers complain that right now, when economic activity picks up, there are no suitable and qualified workers available on the job market." The authority has so far recorded almost 400 specific inquiries. "That means that the employer has already found a specialist and has sent us the relevant documents to carry out the procedure," said the spokesman. Since the beginning of the year, pre-approvals have been issued for around 180 procedures and the procedure has thus been concluded with a positive result.
"In addition, we receive numerous telephone inquiries every day in which primarily employers, but also other interested parties such as the specialists themselves or relatives and acquaintances, are advised on the accelerated specialist procedure or referred to the responsible offices." According to the authority, most inquiries come from Morocco and the Western Balkans.

For companies that have received orders for the reconstruction in the flood-damaged Ahr Valley, special temporary regulations apply to the immigration of skilled workers, said the spokesman.
"We would be happy to advise you on this."
Since March 2020, companies in Rhineland-Palatinate have had the opportunity to have the entry requirements checked in Germany for skilled workers from abroad and thus to shorten the visa process.
The Kaiserslautern Immigration Office has had central responsibility since January 1st.
