The left-wing top candidate Klaus Lederer has defended the establishment of a commission of experts to demand the expropriation of large housing groups.
"It is new legal territory that is being entered," said the Berlin Senator for Culture on Monday on the RBB information radio.
The corresponding Article 15 in the Basic Law has not yet been applied.
"That means that we now have to work out more precisely how this can work legally and practically."
Berlin - That is why it is right that experts should work out proposals for implementation, including the popular initiative.
According to the exploratory paper by the SPD, the Greens and the Left on the referendum, the possibilities and prerequisites for implementation are to be examined within a year.
The initiative “Expropriate Deutsche Wohnen und Co.” sees “transparent delaying tactics”.
Lederer rejected this.
No law was passed with the referendum.
“We have an assignment to the Senate and this assignment must be implemented,” said Lederer.
“Of course, that doesn't just fall from the sky, but a work process is necessary.” Hopefully, the parties would agree on the details in the next few weeks.
"On the other hand, of course, I assume that such a vote cannot simply be ignored politically."

After a meeting with the Greens, the Berlin SPD continued its exploratory talks with the left on Friday.
Representatives of both parties met in the afternoon in the SPD state office to sound out what overlaps there are for a possible start of coalition negotiations.

Regarding the mood between the parties that have been working together for five years, Lederer said: "The harmony in such a coalition is everyone's job." Better cooperation between the parliamentary group and the Senate is "quite conceivable".
