Police today (Sunday) arrested for questioning two minors as young as 17, including a footballer of the Israeli youth team, and detained a number of other boys, on suspicion of committing sexual offenses on a minor under the age of 14 at a boarding school in the Shefela area.
The police opened a sensitive investigation about a week ago, upon receiving a complaint at the Rehovot station, concerning the suspicion of sexual assault on a 13.5-year-old minor by a number of minors who are also staying at the same educational institution.
Meanwhile, Rehovot police arrested two boys as young as 17 today for questioning and detained a number of other boys on suspicion of involvement.
In accordance with the needs of the investigation and its findings, the police will consider bringing one of the suspects to a hearing in the Magistrate's Court tomorrow, with a request to extend their detention.
In the football team to which the 17-year-old player belongs, they heard about the affair only in the last hour by inquiries from the media and at this stage they are still finding out details.
