Between France and the United Arab Emirates, "the reliability" of an already long-standing partnership

DECRYPTION - The purchase of 80 Rafale fighter jets by Abu Dhabi has been the main economic success of French diplomacy in the Middle East for several years.


Emmanuel Macron had announced it at the start of his five-year term when he received the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salman:

"France must consider the Gulf monarchies first as allies, then as clients."

It is finally with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the President of the Republic began on Friday a mini-tour in this region with strong economic potential, that he succeeded in making the synthesis between strategic imperatives and commercial interests.

Added to additional Emirati investments in France, amounting to around 5 billion euros, the purchase of 80 Rafale fighter jets by Abu Dhab has been the main economic success of French diplomacy in the Middle East for several years.

It is no coincidence that it concerns the UAE, where France set up a military base in 2009, under Nicolas Sarkozy.
