The commander of Joint Command 3, Major General Edgar Alberto Rodríguez, said that the 7 victims were men, adding that they are believed to have been killed by what he called "residual groups" of the FARC.

The incident occurred when the group was at a party, in the indigenous sector of Bellavista of the Puerto Leguizamo municipality, on the border with Ecuador and Peru.

Rodríguez affirmed that none of the victims belonged to indigenous groups and added that they were members of another group of dissidents.
