North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has called for a rapid increase in capacity for the more precise PCR tests to identify corona infections.
"The high number of new infections leads to bottlenecks in the availability of PCR tests," said Wüst on Monday after the federal and state consultations on the rapid spread of the omicron virus variant.
Berlin - The health ministers of the federal states have therefore decided to prioritize the PCR tests, according to which the PCR tests should be concentrated on staff in hospitals, practices and care.

At the same time, however, work must also be done on “increasing the PCR test capacities as quickly as possible”.
People also expected this with a view to neighboring countries, which had significantly larger test capacities.
"There is no help in assigning blame in one direction or the other," said Wüst, who is also chairman of the Prime Ministers' Conference (MPK).
"It is important that we work on the situation so that it gets better." Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) has promised to work on expanding the test capacities.
