At least 14 immigrants were injured when the van in which they were traveling suffered an accident this Sunday morning in the Texas county of Bexar, which includes the city of San Antonio, when they were being chased at high speed by the police.
The Medina County Sheriff's Office, located between San Antonio and the border city of Del Rio, asked their Bexar colleagues for help shortly after 8 a.m. to stop a vehicle that had been stopped but had escaped.

The driver of the van had sped up to escape officers at a highway checkpoint to evade the officers, who chased after him.
The getaway vehicle ended up overturning near Interstate 35 and Kinney Road.
16 people were traveling in the truck;
14 of them were injured in the accident, and at least one of the vehicle's occupants was able to escape.
The driver is among those injured and was hospitalized;
according to authorities, he had a gun in his lap.
