At least the inventory survey is complete.

However, further investigations are necessary for the details of a Kienbach rehabilitation in the Herrsching area.

Nevertheless, there was a progress report on Monday evening in the municipal council.

Herrsching

- project manager Johannes Haas and department manager Sigrun Frank probably wanted to take account of the concerns of the "stream and tree friends", because the two representatives of the water management office in Weilheim did not have much that was new with them when they were in the Herrsching municipal council on Monday evening.

As reported, the outcry was loud when five trees on the Kienbach were felled in February as a so-called immediate measure in the name of flood protection.

Harbingers of a redevelopment that could happen without the community and residents having a say – that was the fear of the initiative founded shortly thereafter.

In order to anticipate further concerns, the two representatives of the Weilheim authority presented their status report to the municipal council.

What is new is that the as-built survey has been completed.

"More than 100 structures were evaluated," explained project manager Haas.

Walls partly leaned into the creek, were undermined, partly there were traffic areas and buildings directly behind them.

In the Mühlfelder Strasse area in particular, Haas predicted a major hazard if the wall failed.

In the simulation of a hundred-year flood, he tried to illustrate this danger.

"It's not the worst case," he said repeatedly.

However, in the depiction areas of Herrsching were under water that had never been under water before.

The last known crossing of the Kienbach happened in the 19th century.

Haas was certain of this, but warned that the situation would be different if the walls collapsed and only three-quarters or four-fifths of the flow volume was possible.

"The backlog would affect numerous buildings."

In Haas' simulation, a 100-year flood would have flooded Köblweg and Von-Eichendorff-Straße up to Seestraße and down to the lake.

And in his opinion, as I said, this is not even the worst case.

Currently, only rehabilitation sections could be determined.

The details of the measures depended on further investigations, he said.

A construction report should be available in summer, a geotechnical report in autumn.

Only then could proposals for measures be drawn up, which would then be discussed together with the community and residents - probably in winter 2022/23.

Only one measure is currently considered safe, said department head Frank: the new construction of a driftwood retention at the end of the gorge.

When asked by the council, Haas and his colleague assured that they wanted to implement the renovation as ecologically and tangibly as possible.

"To a large extent, however, this is dependent on the property owners," said Haas.

He could only promise this: "What is certain is that there will be no box channel from top to bottom."

However, he also pointed out that natural alternative areas are only useful if they are five to ten meters wide and at least 50 to 100 meters long.

This is hardly feasible in the local area, if only with the property owners.

In this context, the planning for the station forecourt from 2018 came to mind. The municipality also owns part of the area in this area.

Public access to the stream was planned there.

Something that the water management office would welcome, as Sigrun Frank assured.

"Social function is part of our planning." The question is what will be implemented faster, the stream rehabilitation, which will take several years, or the redesign of the station square, which has been stalled for four years?
