Two referees were beaten up on Wednesday May 11 in the Colette Besson gymnasium. The victims filed a complaint against their attackers

Two referees were beaten up after a handball match in Garges-lès-Gonesse on Wednesday May 11.

The attack occurred after a meeting between the clubs of Garges-Sarcelles and Franconville.

The victims filed a complaint against the attackers but also against their sports club as well as the town hall of Garges-lès-Gonesse for "negligence".

They blame them for the absence of a guard in the gymnasium during their attack.

An investigation has been launched by the police to find the perpetrators of the beatings.

It all started with a banal decision by one of the referees during the match.

At the time of the meeting between the teams, one of the two pronounces a temporary exclusion against a player from Garges.

This one gets angry and wants to attack him physically.

Once the match is over, a group of individuals find them in the gymnasium and beat them up.

The two victims have swollen faces with wounds on the scalp and lumbar contusions.

Injuries that earned them several days of ITT.

No guard present at the time of the incident

But speaking to several media, the two young people point out that there was no one there at the time of the events.

This is not the first time that the issue of the lack of guarding of municipal sports equipment has been raised.

Contacted in relation to the complaint for "negligence", the town hall of Garges specifies that it signs an agreement with each club.

The latter allows them “to use municipal sports equipment in complete autonomy, and therefore to manage the security aspect”.

According to her, the city is therefore “not responsible for the surveillance of this gymnasium”.

In addition, she adds that a guard is not intended to ensure the security of a sports structure.

"The mayor has a responsibility for security", reacts the opposition

However, this absence of a goalkeeper made the opposition react.

“The mayor has a responsibility for the security of sports facilities in the city, reacts Dean Nguyen, president of the opposition group.

Signing autonomy agreements with clubs is not normal!

If they are not framed, there is necessarily a malfunction.

In municipalities like ours with a security problem, all gymnasiums should have surveillance funded by the city.

Bruno Piriou, president of the ADBB association which has three sports sections, considers that the clubs do not have the financial means necessary to guarantee this monitoring anyway.

“The question of security is up to the goalkeeper to take it into account,” he believes.

Hiring security guards has a cost that the associations cannot bear given their limited means.

The municipality can on the other hand, by increasing the number of guards, allow the protection of goods and people.

The facilities belong to the city.

We must respect the premises but we cannot ensure the role of police vis-à-vis outsiders.

Especially since most of us are volunteers.

Rather than rejecting the responsibility, it would be better to meet and work together.

For his part, the president of the handball club concerned wishes to wait for the end of the judicial investigation before speaking.
