District of Fürstenfeldbruck – Colorful flower meadows, known as lowland and mountain hay meadows, are species-rich habitats.

They were created by traditional agriculture with its extensive farming methods.

Characteristic of these meadows are still many colorful flowering plants and a large variety of butterflies, wild bees, grasshoppers and other groups of insects, which find a habitat here that has become rare.

Due to the changing nature of management, many of these hay meadows have been lost or their quality, i.e. the wealth of different animal and plant species, has decreased.

One of six hay meadow projects in Upper Bavaria, which will run until 2024, is now starting in the Fürstenfeldbruck district.

The project sponsor is the government of Upper Bavaria and will be financed by the State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection.

The project areas were selected together with the lower nature conservation authorities.

The implementation takes place together with the Institute for Environmental Planning and Spatial Development (ifuplan).

Determination of the meadow condition

The aim is to determine the current condition of the meadows based on the plant species occurring there.

Based on this, targeted measures to protect existing, species-rich hay meadows, but also to improve currently less species-rich hay meadows can be proposed and implemented.

From early summer 2022 until the following year, the meadows and the plant species that grow on them will be inspected.

Consultation talks with farmers are then to take place in order to discuss possible optimization measures in management and the funding options for extensive management.

This can be different cutting dates, frequencies or a targeted reseeding of flowering plants.

So that interested parties and laypeople can get an impression of the blossoms and insect diversity of these species-rich hay meadows, guided hikes to various hay meadow locations will take place in summer 2022 and 2023 and information signs will be set up about the hay meadows and the hiking routes.

The dates are publicly announced in advance.

Kick-off event on May 25th

A kick-off event will take place on May 25th in the large conference room of the Fürstenfeldbruck district office to provide early information to the communities and representatives of land management, landscape conservation and nature conservation and to clarify open questions.

Further information on the hay meadow projects can be found on the homepage of the government of Upper Bavaria under Service, Environment, Nature Conservation/ Natura 2000.
