In an interview with our newspaper, Miesbach's family advisor, Malin Friese, talks about the planned municipal holiday program.

This should close a gap in care.

Miesbach – The city of Miesbach is currently using an online survey to determine whether (prospective) elementary school students need care during the holidays.

This goes back to an initiative of the youth and family working group, in which city councilor and family officer Malin Friese (Greens) and youth officer Christian Mittermaier (CSU) are also active.

We spoke to Friese (38), herself a mother of three, about the need for such an offer.

Ms. Friese, the city of Miesbach is preparing holiday care for elementary school students.

Isn't there one yet?

Malin Friese:

There is a holiday program that the municipalities of Miesbach, Hausham and Schliersee offer together.

However, the primary focus is on the fun factor.

The idea is to offer something to those students who don't go on vacation.

The district youth council changed its focus last year and offered the program all day.

But only one week in the summer holidays.

A holiday program that primarily serves to look after children whose parents have to work does not yet exist in Miesbach.

Except for the Hort, which anchored this in the concept.

From the 2026/27 school year, all first graders should be entitled to all-day care.

It includes holiday care.

So is the city taking action?

Malin Friese:

We simply see that there is a great need.

The 30 days of holiday that employees usually have is far from enough to cover all school holidays.

That's why the rush to the after-school care centers in Miesbach is so great.

The fact is that nowadays both parents usually work.

As long as their children attend a day care center, they do not have to cover week-long vacations because day care centers are closed for a maximum of 30 days a year.

When their children start school, they suddenly face a problem.

We want to close this support gap.

The youth and family working group has been pointing out this problem for some time.

Parents will have to pay their own contribution.

Family advisor Malin Friese on a possible childcare offer during the holidays.

What factors does the query determine?

Malin Friese:

First of all, we want to make the need visible.

To show the extent to which it exists.

We are also interested in which school holidays are particularly urgent, which childcare hours are required each day and whether there is any interest in lunch.

In order to then be able to make a targeted offer.

Finally, we want to show the parents a financial framework to prepare them for the fact that this is not a free offer.

There is government funding, but parents will have to contribute their own money.

How was the response in the first few days of the query?

Malin Friese:

Bombastic.

We had 70 replies in just the first hour after sending it out.

This is of course also due to the fact that it is an interactive online query.

It is clearly structured and easily filled out within a few minutes.

The city has sent them to the elementary schools and kindergartens with the request that they be passed on to the parents.

This is more contemporary than a note in the child's closet.

Can you already say which school holidays demand is particularly high?

Malin Friese:

Around 70 percent of parents want childcare during the summer holidays.

This is also the longest period of time and therefore the most difficult to bridge.

The focus here is on the first three weeks.

The voluntary working group youth and family will help.

Malin Friese, family officer of the city of Miesbach.

What is the biggest challenge in implementation?

Malin Friese:

That someone is in charge of developing it further and setting it up.

There is no official position in the city that can do this.

That's why the volunteer working group for young people and families will also get involved and push it further.

Childcare facilities are struggling to find staff...

Malin Friese:

Basically, the city of Miesbach has educational staff, for example for lunchtime supervision.

The extent to which resources are available here is still unclear.

It is important for the city to position itself as an attractive employer.

You can also bring in interns for support.

We have a possible source in Miesbach with the vocational school center that trains educators.

I can imagine that holiday care is an interesting internship for BSZ students.

However, quality lunchtime care also requires qualified staff.

The preparation of a holiday program takes time and expertise.

That doesn't just happen on the side.
