A couple of Canadians, one of them wanted by Interpol, were murdered in Playa del Carmen with a knife, the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office reported Tuesday.
The authorities of the state in the Mexican southeast, in the tourist Riviera Maya where the centers of Cancun and Tulum are also located, found a woman and a man with their throats cut in a condominium in that city.
Another person was also injured during the incident

The Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the dead man was on Interpol's wanted list on fraud charges.

The Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen, in particular, have been shaken by several cases of violence involving foreigners.
In March, a Canadian businessman was shot to death by two men on a motorcycle who intercepted him while he was driving on the federal highway that connects Cancun with Playa del Carmen.
That same month, the Playa del Carmen police found the bodies of four men dumped near a housing complex.
The fact that the bodies were left together in the bushes by the side of a driveway indicated a gang-style killing.

In January, two Canadians were also killed in a local tourist park, apparently due to debts between international drug gangs and arms trafficking.
In November, a shooting on the beach in Puerto Morelos in front of the Hyatt Ziva hotel near Cancún left two suspected drug traffickers dead.
Authorities said about 15 armed men belonged to a gang that was apparently vying for control of drug sales there.
In late October, further south in the destination of Tulum, two tourists — an Indian-born California travel blogger and a German national — were caught in an apparent crossfire by rival drug traffickers and killed.
