Sudden Braking: Decreasing Demand for Used Cars | Israel today

2022-07-10T19:18:51.469Z

After the market reached a peak during the corona - there is a slowdown in the field • The reason: the public directed the money to vacations abroad • Still, experts emphasize: "Israelis are in no hurry to give up buying cars"

During the long corona crisis that befell the world, the demand for second-hand vehicles increased, so much so that the prices of the vehicles were sold above the list price.

There is still a demand for second-hand vehicles now, but prices in some cases are starting to fall.

According to the Levy Yitzhak Group, consumption of used cars increased during the Corona.

After the Corona crisis, in 2021 about a million used cars were sold.

In 2020-2019, about 850,000 cars were sold second-hand, and before the outbreak of the epidemic in 2018, it was 800,000 cars.

Levy Mi-Ron, vice president of automotive at the Levy Yitzhak Group, told Israel Today: "Every month we publish market data for the previous month.

In the June price list, we identified that the public spent money on vacations abroad at the expense of the automotive sector. People were then given permission to go abroad, which prevented them from doing so earlier.

"In the June price list we identified a kind of trend of a slight halt, compared to previous months. This is a halt of about 2%. In July we saw a return to the purchase of vehicles. Although it is not like in previous months in terms of money, but still people in July returned to buy vehicles "The reason is that there is a problem with the supply of new vehicles and people need to get from point to point. We know the state of public transportation, and every time there is talk of one variant or another."

As for prices, Levy said that "Israelis do not give up on vehicles. We do not see a situation of increased car sales, neither among the institutions nor among the individuals. This trend may reverse and happen towards the end of the year, when interest rates will unfortunately continue to rise and fuel will continue to rise. That the hand replacements of used vehicles have only increased in recent years.

"2021 gave a huge jump in the order of a million used cars. What will happen in 2022? It's hard to answer. I have a feeling we'll scratch the million from below, as long as the supply of new vehicles continues to move lazily. The supply ranges of new vehicles are in the order of 6 4 months and some will not arrive by the end of the year.

"Some cars see a slowdown in prices at the end of the half compared to previous months. However, the car market does not behave laterally. Some models will be more in demand and some less so. There are used vehicles whose prices have fallen in the same categories. Israelis do not give up vehicles. We "We do not see a situation of increased car sales, neither among the institutional nor in the private sector. It is possible that this trend will be reversed and this will happen towards the end of the year, when interest rates will unfortunately continue to rise and fuel will continue to rise."

It should be noted that in "Yad 2" we also see a moderation in prices.

From a half-year summary in the used car market, one can see a moderation or halt in the rise in prices since January this year, compared to the significant increase in prices last year.
