Beijing-Sana

China has renewed its warning to the United States of the consequences of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, stressing that the Chinese People's Liberation Army will not stand idly by.

"China has repeatedly expressed to the United States its grave concerns on this issue and its solemn position of resolutely opposing Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, and stressed the serious consequences if Pelosi makes that visit," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said yesterday at a press conference. .

He added, "The will of the people cannot be challenged, and whoever plays with fire will burn them. There is a belief that the US side is fully aware of China's strong and clear message."

China is closely following Pelosi's itinerary, he said, stressing that "her visit to Taiwan will constitute a flagrant interference in China's internal affairs, seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, will deliberately trample on the one-China principle, greatly threaten peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and undermine Chinese relations." It will lead to a very dangerous situation and dire consequences.”

Zhao said China once again warns the US side that it is on high alert and that the People's Liberation Army will not stand idly by and will definitely take resolute and strong countermeasures to defend the country's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

He added that Washington should strictly abide by the one-China principle and the conditions stipulated in the three joint communiques between China and the United States, respect US President Joe Biden's commitment not to support the so-called "Taiwan independence" and not to arrange Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
