The Syrian researcher and historian Eid Marei chose the history of the ancient East, its languages ​​and civilizations as a field for his research and studies.

Historian Eid believes that whoever does not have a history will not have an identity and that all of what we see today of creative leaps are the product of successive eras of ancient civilizations that we must cherish. civilization among the languages ​​of the world.

Eid Ibn al-Golan, the occupied Syrian, after he finished his university studies by obtaining a degree in history from the University of Damascus, traveled to West Germany and settled in the city of Würzburg and studied the Mesopotamian civilization in history, heritage and languages ​​until he obtained his doctorate in 1985 and returned home to be a member of the faculty in the Department of History at Damascus University until he was promoted to the rank of professor in 1998 and is still in his work today.

Dr. Eid was not limited to teaching at the University of Damascus, but worked in a number of Arab universities on loan. He began teaching at Sana’a University for one year, then spent five years at the College of Education in Bisha, Saudi Arabia, and one year at the University of Dammam. He also worked as a visiting professor at the Institute of Oriental Studies at the University of Chicago, USA.

Dr. Eid published research and studies after his return from Germany in a number of periodicals, including historical studies published by Damascus University and the Cradle of Civilizations periodical issued by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.

As for the authorship, he wrote many university and non-university studies and books, which mainly focused on the ancient history of Syria, the laws of Mesopotamia, the ancient history of the Arabian Peninsula, the Akkadian tongue, the history of the Kingdom of Ebla and its antiquities, the worship of fertility gods, the calendar, time calculation, and the dictionary of gods and mythical beings in the ancient East.

The expert searched in the Encyclopedia of Syrian Archeology in Syria’s ancient history, antiquities and civilization from pre-writing times until the Seleucid era, relying on antiquities and ancient writings discovered within Syrian geography and the inhabitants of the neighboring regions who excelled in achieving remarkable civilizational achievements such as discovering agriculture, making pottery, building the first cities, inventing alphabetic writing and knowledge The various arts of carving, drawing and decorating, and this was evident in the monuments of cities and ancient archaeological sites, the most famous of which are Ebla, Mary, Ugarit and others, which makes us call it the heart of the ancient world.

Marei’s presence in the scientific field was manifested by his invitation to participate in international and international conferences and symposia that shed light on the ancient history of Syria, the ancient Near East and the island, in addition to talking about globalization in the Middle East, the history of the Golan and its effects, which were held in a number of Arab and international countries in addition to Syria.

The distinguished career of Dr. Eid made him win the Muhammad Kurd Ali Prize in Human Sciences from the Arabic Language Academy in Damascus in 2016 for authoring six books and translating one book, namely, the ancient history of Syria, a journey in the world of archaeology, archaeologists, archaeological cities, the Akkadian tongue, the calendar, and calculating time in the ancient civilizations of the East, and the history and antiquities of the Kingdom of Ebla. And the worship of the gods in addition to the State Appreciation Award in 2018.
