The dry vegetation was also a problem.

Forchheim - On Sunday evening, August 14, flames caused a major fire brigade operation in Kersbach (district of Forchheim).

According to

Vifogra

, initially only a burning open space was reported.

Dry vegetation in Forchheim: "Fire can spread quickly"

On site, the emergency services found that a barn was on fire in a wooded area.

The flames threatened to spread to another barn and a summer house.

The dry vegetation also made things difficult for the firefighters.

“Due to the dry vegetation, the fire can spread very quickly.

That's why the focus of the measures is currently very much on preventing the spread," Vifogra quotes Christian Seiler, district fire chief and press spokesman for the fire brigades in the Forchheim district, during the operation in the evening.

Other fire brigade units were therefore alerted, as were farmers and landscape gardeners with their liquid manure barrels.

Among them was Hermann Greif, a farmer from Pinzberg and at the same time the President of the Upper Franconian Farmers' Association.

Forchheim: Farmers help the fire brigade in action - "Totally self-evident"

He and all other farmers are prepared for such situations and have liquid manure barrels filled with water in the yard.

If the phone rings and the fire brigade needs support, the farmers help out.

"That's a total matter of course," the portal quotes the farmer as saying.

“We are here on a state road between Kersbach and Effeltrich.

The water supply is a bit more complicated here.

Although we have a hydrant network in both villages, we have now also laid a long stretch of hose from the adjacent ponds to the site of the emergency," said the fire brigade gratefully for the help of the farmers.

In the heat of the moment, Greif couldn't say exactly how many farmers supported the fire brigade: "It's hard to say, but I think between twelve and fifteen are on the road right now.

The barrels I saw were somewhere between five cubic meters and fifteen cubic meters, so I think about a hundred cubic meters of water are constantly in use there,” he estimated during the operation.

The police are now investigating the cause of the fire.

The post-extinguishing work continued into the morning.

As a result of the heat and drought, many bodies of water in Bavaria currently have little water.

The situation in Nuremberg is also tense.
