Geretsried - The reimbursement of money already paid for road inspection trips to the federal states makes it possible: In the autumn, the state building authority will set up the crossing aid on Tattenkofener Straße that many have been asking for and longing for.

The background: Because of the unexpected cash blessing from the federal government, the Weilheim authority can implement some upcoming projects earlier than planned.

The building authority was awarded around nine million euros, 300,000 euros of which will flow into the crossing for cyclists and pedestrians on State Road 2369 near Breslauer Weg.

Almost exactly a year ago, rescue workers were deployed here after a serious accident.

A driver from Wolfratshausen was heading towards the B11 from the Tattenkofen Bridge in the early afternoon.

When a cyclist wanted to cross the street in front of her, she braked.

The motorcyclist behind her started to overtake - and collided with the cyclist.

He succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident, and the cyclist died two months later as a result.

2337 people sign the online petition

The calls for more security became louder and louder as a result.

An online petition initiated by a woman from Wolfratshausen was signed by 2,337 people in a very short space of time.

Because there, at the height of the Breslauer Weg on the one hand and the Zehnerhüttenweg on the other side, two national, heavily frequented routes intersect with the state road 2369: on the one hand the cycle path to and from Bad Tölz, on the other hand the Via Tyrolensis, which at the same time is a section of the Munich-Venice long-distance cycle route.

The construction of an underpass was rejected for cost reasons, since the groundwater level is very high at this point.

Mayor Michael Müller proposed a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour and a ban on overtaking as an immediate measure.

Also under discussion was a push button traffic light.

However, according to the state building authority at the time, "the criteria for an accident frequency in the three-year period under consideration are not given".

That would be the only prerequisite for being able to act.

The last accident with injuries, as researched by Martin Herda, head of the department responsible for road construction in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen area, occurred in 2014, with a fatal outcome in 2009.

Nevertheless, the members of the accident commission, consisting of representatives of the police and the lower traffic authority in the district office, the state building authority and the mayor of Geretsried, met on site.

The result of the inspection: The authority ordered an overtaking ban in this area as an immediate measure.

In the longer term, a traffic island is to be built - for which the road must be widened by 2.25 meters on both the Zehnerhüttenweg and Breslauer Weg sides.

"The installation area should be big enough," emphasizes Herda, "that a bicycle with a child trailer can stand across it." The Zehnerhüttenweg, which borders on the nature reserve, initially caused concern.

"We found a solution here by creating compensation areas," says the head of the authority.

Michael Müller is extremely pleased that rapid implementation is now within reach.

"We had already considered in the city council whether we would pre-finance the measure." But that is now off the table.

The mayor of Geretsried is happy "that things are getting started".

Construction is scheduled to begin in October

The building authority is in the process of putting the project on the award platform and initiating the process.

"It will take about three to four weeks," Herda calculates.

"I think that we will then start in early to mid-October." Herda expects a construction period of four weeks - "but of course that depends on the weather conditions".
