The Syrian Family Planning Association participates in the national campaign to investigate cancer in Homs by providing it with the necessary medical materials and conducting awareness lectures about the disease.
The coordinator of the association’s branch in Homs, Dr. Farid al-Sayyid Suleiman, explained to SANA reporter that the association’s central administration in Damascus had supplied a large part of the materials needed to implement the campaign, and they were delivered to the Homs Health Directorate including reagents, dyes, slides, examination tools, and a cervical smear, in addition to stationery materials.
Suleiman added: The cadres of the association’s branch in Homs carry out awareness sessions regarding tumors and methods of prevention, with an emphasis on the necessity of conducting early examination because it is the most effective way to prevent disease, and periodically within the clinics of the association’s branch in the governorate, especially women, and training them on methods of self-examination and referring suspected cases to centers. Approved participation in the campaign in the province.
Suleiman indicated that in the context of the preparations prior to the launch of the national campaign to investigate cancer, 34 health personnel in the association’s branch underwent training workshops in the governorate on ways to investigate tumors using the best scientific and medical methods, as the association is one of the active associations for a long time in the field of health. It currently has 10 women's clinics in the governorate, in addition to a mobile team in the countryside. A youth center in the association's branch also implements awareness campaigns and lectures for various segments of society, with the aim of promoting health culture and encouraging citizens to investigate early about the disease, and conduct examinations for free.
In the framework of promoting awareness and spreading health education, Nahed Sharafou, a counselor at the family planning clinic in the Dablan neighborhood of the association, presented an awareness session for women about ways to conduct early examination for cervical cancer, and the importance of early investigation to mitigate the psychological and financial effects of the disease on the individual and health institutions.
In the association's youth center, Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Kahil gave a lecture with the participation of a group of young people about the importance of early investigation of prostate cancer, stressing that early examination is very important to prevent the growth and spread of cancer and ease of treatment in its early stages, and the symptoms, signs and stages of cancer were explained and treatment methods.
