Three pedal strokes and the star of the tree on the Sainte-Catherine promenade sparkles.
This Wednesday at 6 p.m., the Bordeaux shopping center will inaugurate its recycled plastic tree.
Produced by the artist Jean-François André on a concept imported from China, it is made up of more than 2,700 recycled bottles.
Hanging like a crinoline petticoat from the mast of acrobats from the local Tango nomade troupe, they aim to raise customers' awareness of the pollution of the Atlantic Ocean.
"
I accepted this project because I liked the underlying message conveyed by this place at Christmas time
", explains Jean-François André.
Before emphasizing without irony: “
It's still the lair of consumption, packaging and over-packaging.
»
A paradox that the director of the shopping mall recognizes without batting an eyelid.
“
We don't try to be flawless.
We simply want to bring our stone to the building
”, affirms Vincent Mauvage, who says he is “
sensitive
” to the subject.
The challenge is twofold.
On the one hand, the private initiative carried out by the Gironde surfing brand
Nomades surfing
calls into question the quantity of plastic consumed by everyone.
On the other, it raises awareness of the resources spent to light up Christmas.
Thanks to the two bicycles connected to this singular decoration, it is the passers-by who provide the impetus needed to light up its two hundred meters of garland.
"
This makes it possible to understand that the energy produced mechanically is not up to our needs
,” explains Basile Gentil, one of the co-founders of the brand created by three friends in 2017.

Paid efforts.
By riding the bikes, customers trigger a counter.
The partners “
thus undertake to participate in the restoration of the forests
” for each kilowatt hour harvested.
If they reach the maximum level of 50 kWh, estimated at 4,000 euros, Bordeaux residents will contribute to planting up to 2,000 trees.
Encouraged by
Le Figaro
to test the installation, Louis, 19, is now convinced.
“
It's good to get that message across.
The beaches are disgusting when it costs nothing to throw your rubbish in the trash
, ”said the server, who regularly surfs in Soulac-sur-Mer (Gironde).
Dubitative, Dominique preferred to "
let the youth
" activate the furniture.
“
It's good if someone is pedaling, otherwise it's useless
,” says the sixty-year-old.
