A swan was hit by a New Year's Eve rocket while flying over the Isar Bridge.
The animal crashed onto the B427.
A group of revelers bravely intervened.
Bad Tölz
– Fireworks and their effects on animals were discussed controversially and often emotionally before New Year's Eve.
An incident on New Year's Eve in Bad Tölz shows that there is a reason for the debate.
On Sunday at around 0.20 a.m., a swan that wanted to fly over the Isar bridge on the B427 was hit by a firework rocket - the bird was lucky in the misfortune.

“I went to the Isar Bridge with my family and friends to watch the fireworks.
About 20 minutes after midnight, a friend saw a bird crash and fall onto the street," Maria Kastenmüller reports to our newspaper.
The group made their way to the animal.
"It quickly turned out that it was a slightly larger bird.
The swan fell on the median and ran back and forth in irritation,” the Tölzerin describes the scenario.
She then tried to stop the traffic so that the swan between the cars that roared past him on the left and right didn't do more harm.

Driver annoyed by the rescue operation: "Sneak away from the creature"
"Then I took the swan by the body and by the neck to carry it off the street," explains the 28-year-old.
"He was totally scared and hissed." She had the courage to do so, among other things, because she works as a non-medical practitioner for animals.
"That's how I know how to deal with a frightened animal." Kastenmüller and her friends carried the swan dabb down the stairs to the Isar and released it into the water on the bank.
"I don't think he had any physical injuries.
At least he could flap his wings, walk and swim without any problems,” says the animal naturopath.
"When I put him in the water, he immediately swam away."

Driver annoyed by the rescue operation: "Sneak away from the creature"
Kastenmüller was annoyed that some drivers showed no understanding for their courageous intervention.
"A man in the car yelled 'Sneak away from the creatures' and even insulted us because we blocked the street on our own," she says, adding: "Yes, we shouldn't have just been allowed out on the street.
But the swan wouldn't have gotten away on its own." And anyway: "It was a miracle that he fell between the lanes and didn't land directly in front of a moving car."

Rescuer after the incident now fireworks opponent "That has no relation"
Even if the swan got off lightly on New Year's Eve - Maria Kastenmüller is now a strict opponent of fireworks.
"I didn't shoot any myself, but yes, I was out on the bridge to see it too.
It's nice." In the future, however, she will do without it.
"When you experience so closely what can happen to animals as a result, what fear the swan must have felt and what must have happened to him... It's simply out of proportion," says the Tölzer native with conviction.
